A graduate in sociology from London University and a qualified social worker after postgraduate training at Liverpool University. Experience for a number of years in field work with children and families. Moved into management in Reading then Berkshire with the reorganisation of social services before moving to Scotland in 1978. Director of Social Work first in Grampian Region for 15 years and then in Strathclyde and Glasgow, retiring in 1998.
Currently convener of the Care Commission since its inception in 2001. Also a member of the Scottish Social Services Council. A generic interest in all aspects of social work and social care.
