Colin Kirkwood
Trustee, Co-Convenor

My first degree was in English Language and Literature. I started adult life as a poet, gradually traversing into adult education and community development. Following a postgraduate masters degree, I became first Tutor Organiser then District Secretary with the Workers Educational Association. I later trained as a counsellor and psychoanalytic psychotherapist at the SIHR in Edinburgh, practising for several years at Wellspring. From 1994-2004 I was Senior Lecturer in Counselling Studies at Moray House/University of Edinburgh. Since retiring from that post I have been working as a psychotherapist with young women and girls with severe eating disorders. I have published three books, several monographs and a range of papers in professional and academic journals. Recent research interests have included counselling and society, the persons in relation perspective, and the meaning and larger context of dialogue in psychotherapeutic work. My most recent publication is entitled The Persons in Relation Perspective: sources and synthesis, in The Legacy of Fairbairn and Sutherland (2005), edited by Jill and David Scharff and published by Routledge, New York.
